OCD
In the darkness
The monsters fly like bats
At Carlsbad Caverns.
Thoughts with biting teeth
Claws to tear the soul;
They swirl and dip and dive
Attacking like fire-drakes
And I am Tippi Hedren
Running, screaming, flailing
In hopes of escape
I crash into the walls
Of this cave
Bruised and battered
Stumbling toward light
That is so faint
I cannot see it if I look straight-on.
Somewhere is the exit
To this hall of nightmares.
Someday I will find it
And stumble out into the Light,
A child in sudden brightness,
A field of daisies
Other children laughing,
Holding out hands to me
“You’ve escaped!” Their eyes shine
With such joy
“Now, come play as you were meant to
Before the Thought-dragons
Stole you away.”
